California ACTRA Board Approves $100,000 - April 7, 2008
On April 7, 2008 the California Board of Directors met at the Farmers Den Restaurant in Turlock. The agenda did not have a lot of items as the Board has made many of the decisions for the year. One important issue left was the budget, now that the cattle costs had been decided, the budget could be finalized. The Board decided that in order to cover the costs of the additional category (category 7), that we do away with the High money awards at the Cathys Valley Finals. With the awards program approaching $100,000.00 at the Chapter Finals, this would help balance the budget without increasing the entry fees at the Finals. The Finals at Red Bluff and King City will have a much harder time making budget due to the increased cattle cost. Increasing the entry fees at those Finals may come up again.

We would like to invite everyone to the Catastrophe Benefit Roping at the River Oak Arena on May 4th. Thank you to Don Gatz. There will be an ACTRA Board meeting following the roping at the Farmers Den in Turlock. Meeting should start at approximately 6:00 pm.
California ACTRA Board of Directors Meeting – March 7, 2008
The California Chapter of the ACTRA met at the Farmers Den Restaurant in Turlock on March 7, 2008. The meeting was well attended with several important decisions to be made.
Financial Report: From a financial stand point the Chapters still doing very well. Memberships are still up and the roping contributions are ahead of last years. This is a good thing as the Chapters added another category and roping at the Cathys Valley Finals. This will add another $15,000 to the prize line. It will push us over the $100,000.00 mark for the California Chapter Finals!
National Report: From the National scene the new web site is getting a lot of real positive reviews. The points are updated nightly, the ropings are current on the calendar and the results will be posted as soon as the arena operators send them in to us. We will have on line entry for the Cathys Valley Finals and the National Finals. We are working on stall reservations for the Nationals.
Chapter Finals: The first order of business was the cattle bids. The Board received bids from Don Gatz and Steve Simons. The bids were very close in cost and the vote was even closer. Steve Simons was given the bid for both King City and Cathys Valley. The number 7 roping was discussed at great links. It was decided to make the number 7 roping a 4 for $50 and upgrade awards if someone should sponsor this roping. It was reported that Coyote Springs Ranch might be interested in sponsoring this roping.
Finals Format: The format was discussed, with the addition of the #7 it may be necessary to ad at least a ½ day to the Cathys Valley Finals. Next month we should be able to finalize the format.
Awards Program: Tonja Sweeney has started working on the awards program and its looking great. Now with the cattle costs are set we can do a budget and Tonja can finish the program. Look for updates on the web site by the end of the month.Sponsorships were discussed next. Steve Prine had offered to work on sponsorships for a percentage. The Board decided if they were going to entertain the idea of hiring someone, a job description would have to be decided on as well as putting it out for bid. The idea was tabled.
Arena Operators: It was confirmed that Dan Branco would be roping at Chowchilla on August 16th and 17th, 2008. Allen Sanders was granted an out of region roping to be held at Quincy during the Memorial and Labor Day weekends. Don Gatz has been given an out of region roping on March 8th in Salinas and April 6th at River Oak. The Board decided to have a Catastrophe Fundraiser roping at Dons on May 4th, if Don was agreeable. The Balico Riding Club was granted a full time arena membership in region 2.
The meeting ended by sending Austin Roen some help from the Catastrophe Fund due to medical expenses for his father Barney.
